The history of this anime sword is a very intresting one. The real name of this sword is Zanpakuto not Zengetsu. Ichigo carries his zanpakut on his back with an unusual sheath that appears as a wrapped up bandage-like cloth, that is generated by Zangetsu himself. When its time to be used in battle comes, the sheath shrinks away from the blade and hangs as a tassel at the bottom of the hilt.
